JAY-Z'S 40/40 FACES LAW SUIT

"Employees at
JAY-Z's New York City nightclub are hitting out at its managers for allegedly threatening them against having any involvement in an ongoing labour lawsuit against the venue. The music mogul's hip-hop hotspot 40/40 was named in a lawsuit filed earlier this month (01Jul08) in a Manhattan court.

Employees of the sports bar claimed they were denied hourly wages and forced to be compensated by customer tips alone. And workers are now claiming the club's general manager, Desiree Gonzalez, threatened one employee she would "f*** up his tax life" for having any involvement in the class-action suit.According to a letter filed in court by the workers' lawyer, the 40/40 boss allegedly told another worker she would "lock him up" if he refused to sign a release for the court case.

Federal Judge Loretta Preska admitted earlier this month (Jul08) the club owners violated federal labour laws after reviewing an earnings report for at least two workers who showed they were not paid for overtime at the venue.Hundreds of former employees could be eligible to collect on the claims if their case wins in court."

NYFab! in VEGAS| 40/40 GRAND OPENING

Unless you've been living under a rock, I'm sure you've heard that former Def Jam President and rapper Jay-Z expanded his 40/40 club to Las Vegas this past weekend where he celebrated the grand opening for New Years. Celebrities from all around the country and world came to check it out and you know the entire FabEmpire crew was in the building. Check out pictures below of Jay's latest venture;

40/40 interior Las Vegas

40/40 Vegas VIP room

To investigate the 40/40 club even further theFabEmpire crew also checked it out during normal business hours when the venue wasn't filled with celebrities. We found that unlike the new years festivities when the club seemed on point, it in fact was hardly ready to be open.

Since the clubs kitchen is not yet finished food orders take up to 1. 5 hours to get (since their transferred thru the Venetian Hotel), the waiters and bartenders are NOT trained. We recieved watered down Apple Martini's that cost $15, and friendly service from a waitress who seemed completely lost. However the interior of the club was absolutely amazing, men of any age, race, or background would be in love with the venue. You cannot turn a corner without seeing an HD flat screen, and VIP rooms that include video games, pool tables, and plush couches.

Jay-Z really did his thing with the Vegas edition of 40/40, within the next year we can definitely see this being one of the hottest places in the Sin City scene!

Recap: Fashion 40 | 40/40 | The Three Kings at Canal Room

As you all know there's always something to do in this city and here at TheFabEmpire love to party. Check out this weekend's recap!

Fashion 40 (202 W. 40th) the official afterwork spot was packed, as usual on Friday night. The crowd was mixed with men and women between the ages of 21-45 (yes I said 45). Drinks were expensive per usual ($25 minimum to use your card at the bar-ouch)!

But why is that club so freakin' small!?!?!?! The space is not big enough for you to even move, let alone dance. However, I did see a couple of cuties so I couldn't complain much. Plus, the heaters outside for people waiting in line are a good look!

40/40 (6 W. 25th) is NOT the place to go and have a good time after work, it's pretty much dead before 11 p.m. Hov himself always claims that 40/40 is a sports bar and not a club..ehhhh sorry Jigga, NYFab! Girl has to disagree!

The Three Kings celebrated their three year anniversary at The Canal Room (285 W. Broadway) last Saturday. With not many clubs in NYC that cater to professional African-Americans exclusively, The Three Kings brought not only and upscale crowd but a grown and sexy atmosphere to Chinatown.

With men dressed in cufflinks and ladies in their finest wintertime freekum's, you didn't want to step in the place half-steppin'. Drinks were pricey of course but what do you expect...this is NYC. A cran&vodka will run you $10 plus tip. Martini's were $11.

There were two VIP areas that seemed to be poppin' off on opposite ends of the club, you just needed to fork out $500 to get a table. Boo!

DJ Velocity was amazing (and sexy too!), especially his oldies but goodies set that had all the 80's babies singing along!

DJ Velocity on the 1's and 2's.

One of the VIP areas, charging a minimum of $500. Not worth it, unless it's your birthday maybe!

Maya Monroe, daughter of NBA Legend, Earl 'the Pearl' Monroe who was honored last weekend in DC by the Washington Wizards.

Stay Fab y'all!

Recap: 40/40 | Slate Plus Night Club

Weekend Recap

H O VA

My best friend/soror/ business partner, Joi-Marie came to visit me this weekend and we found ourselves at our old school spot on Friday night; Jigga's 40/40. We weren't looking to have the time of our lives, or meet our future husbands; we just wanted to relax and sip on martini's after a long work week. Fortunately for us we ended up having a great time, the DJ was poppin, bottles were flowin, and the guys were actually kind of cute! The only downfall I would say is using your credit card; there's a $40 minimum and the waiters get automatic gratuity..whoa Hov.

Something New

After partying at 40/40 the night before, my girls and I decided to try something new. We went to Slate Plus Night Club in Chelsea. If you're looking for a crowd from all walks of life, this is theplace to go. The club is huge; two floors that include a floor length bar, pool and ping pong tables on the lower level, and even fooze ball. The DJ is not half bad either, but don't expect to be doing the Souljah Boy dance. Overall, I give it a B+ for effort.

My girls looking lovely at Slate
