The play is set in a bedroom in the 1940's. I kept waiting for them to switch the set, but it never happened! They had one set for the entire play, which is incredibly long by the way. Anika speaks for about a half an hour straight during the opening act without stopping. This woman has talent! I must admit I had to listen closely to keep up with everything that she was saying. but I have a whole new respect for Ms. Rose; she did her thing.
Terrnce Howard is simply brilliant in this play. His comedic timing was on point; he made you laugh, cry, and smile all at the same time.
Phylicia Rashad will be a legend with good reason; her skills as an actress are multi-dimensional. She can be strong and weak, beautiful and ugly; she can do it all. I sat in awe of her talent; she really is that wonderful.(Photo: DCFab! Girl with Anika Noni Rose)
James Earl Jones wasn't there, but Pat Devall took his place and was great as well. I was a little sad not to see James, but hey you can't win them all.
